Google Gem smartwatch with Google Now, KitKat due on October 31: Report

Google, following the lead of Sony and Samsung, seems all set to launch a smartwatch alongside the Android 4.4 KitKat platform and the rumoured new Nexus smartphone on October 31, if a new report is to be believed.

9to5google reports that the search engine giant is giving finishing touches to its rumoured smartwatch, named Gem. The report further suggests that the smartwatch will come with Google Now integration, and expects the company to include Google Glass functionality to the alleged smartwatch. The report also lists functions like push a button to ask a question, and get a response from via a Google Now enabled smartphone.

The report also expects that some notifications that usually appear on the phone can be showed up on the connected Google Gem smartwatch, like calendar alarms, email, SMS among others. The report adds that Google is focusing on the smartwatch's longer battery life and the device could come with Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

Earlier this month, a report claimed that Google could announce the Gem smartwatch together with Android 4.4 KitKat, when it also expected to launch the successor of the Nexus 4 smartphone. However, the report clarified that the expected date was leaked about a month back so there could be some changes in the Google's plans.

Device makers like Samsung and Sony have already launched their new smartwatches globally, theGalaxy Gear and Smartwatch 2 respectively.
